Fast Defence bespoke courses

What is different about Fast Defence?

A lot of other self defence groups have an inability to create real life situations. Therefore, their training can give the attendee a false sense of security, without the practical, adrenalin driven physical experience.

We don't teach a myriad of fine motor skills that can't be accessed under stress, instead we tap into an area of learning that stays and is stored in the part of your brain where all your emotional responses are kept, as such, this training stays with you for life.

Face the Bulletman test . . . take your best shots at a fully padded and protected instructor . . . do not hold back! Your chance to truly experience an attacker and put your training to the test.

Fast Defence sessions for real life training

What does a typical Fast Defence session involve?

Our basic course lasts approximately 4.5 hours, with lots of follow-on courses dealing with, among other things:

  • Protection against/avoiding Weapons
  • Responding to multiple attackers
  • Ground fighting

Our equipment and expertise ensure a safe and practical session, which has been found to be invaluable by those who have experienced it.

Our FAST courses work because we teach the student to achieve these successes in controlled and increasingly progressive situations.

Gradings

As you progress and improve there are opportunities throughout the year to be assessed on what you have learned. These are called gradings and if the instructor feels you have shown that you have learned and improved you will be rewarded with your next colour of belt. The colour of your belt signifies the level you have achieved and comes with an immense sense of achievement and respect from your fellow students.

The gradings usually involve the majority students and is a coming together of students from all sessions and a great way to share the sense of achievement and support each other as a club.

See our Grading Theory page for more information of belts and learning requirements for each.

Competitions

Local competitions take place most years and are an chance to test your skills.

They are optional, but whilst it isn't a requirement to attend it is a great way to meet SCMA members from other sessions and also the wider Taekwondo community. They are a chance to challenge yourself in a competitive environment and celebrate everyones achievement.

The competition days usually involve different ways to compete; Patterns – where you compete against someone of a similar level to show your pattern, Sparring – a chance to pit your contact skills against someone of a similar size, weight and level to score points, Highest kick and Longest flying kick.

What do I need to bring to my first FREE Trial session?

Firstly a willingness to listen and learn, then a sense of self control and respect for your instructor and fellow students. Whilst the sessions are a chance to learn a form of self defence it is important that this is done with everyones safety first and foremost.

As for kit and clothing, our Trial Sessions are a chance for you to get a taste without spending out on gear and class fees – if you decide Taekwondo is for you, all we ask is that you eventually purchase a uniform, such as you would see in any Dojang, prices for uniforms are relatively low, if you have any concerns, just ask!
